Love for the land

Being a farmer is no ordinary job. It requires love for the land and what is grown on it. Awake and asleep, the farmer takes care of his land and the welfare of his animals. This is no work from 8 – 5. No clear line is between work and free time. The farmer is always on duty and does not consider the number of hours worked or what he gets paid per hour. The livestock comes first and it does not matter if he is sick, Sunday or Christmas. From ancient times people have been practicing diligence and respect for the land’s nature and for the sake of subsistence. Before, there was no choice for many. This was life. Today it is different. There are so many things to choose from, but many still prefer to live in harmony with nature and cultivate the land.

One might ask: What makes it possible for someone to choose to be a farmer even far from the nearest farm or town instead of living in urban areas with regular work hours, and a lot of attractions at hand? Whatever the answer is, we are and ought to be grateful to all those who want to live in the countryside, cultivate the land, care for food production, and keep the land inhabited.
